West Nebraska All-Star Sports, Inc. donated a total of $4,000 to two local organizations from a portion of the proceeds from the 2012 All-Star games.

The Cat/Pup Pack program receieved a $1,500 donation. This food backpack program was started in 2009 by Scottsbluff Public Schools after school staff noticed how hungry some children were after returning to school after the weekend. Gering Public Schools sent home their first backpacks in 2010. The backpacks are packed weekly and filled with 15 items of food and given to each child in the family who has signed up.

In 2010-2011 school year, over 6,000 backpacks were filled and sent home. Currently, 160-17- backpacks are being sent home each week in Scottsbluff and Gering. It currently costs approximately $35,000 per year to run the program.

The Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center received a donation of $2,500. The Scotts Bluff County Volunteer Center oversees several community programs including Meals-On-Wheels, Shopping for Seniors, Home Delivered Commodities, Snow Angels and Thanksgiving in the Valley. They also recruit volunteers for other agencies including their own.

The Meals-On-Wheels program delivers approximately 22,000 meals annually to home-bound elderly or disabled individuals in the community. Shopping for Seniors helps home-bound individuals with home grocery deliveries and serves approximately 100 individuals weekly. Snow Angels delivers between 90-180 bags of food for clients throughout the winter months, to help supplement their food pantries. The Scotts Bluff Volunteer Center also helped with the delivery of almost 257 meals for Thanksgiving in the Valley last year.

The 2012 games marked the 35th year for the football game and the 27th year for the volleyball game. The West Nebraska All-Star Games give athletes from small and medium sized towns in western Nebraska a chance to take part in an All-Star game.

The 2013 West Nebraska All-Star Games will be played Saturday, June 1, 2013, in Scottsbluff.
