40th anniversary Dulaney Canoe Derby this weekend

The 40th anniversary of the annual Ed Dulaney Canoe Derby will be held today through Sunday at the Bridgeport State Recreation Area. Founded by the late Ed Dulaney, a Gering Scoutmaster, the Derby welcomes Boy Scouts, Webolos, and Cub Scouts from Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado for a one of a kind event.

Dick Ross is a co-chairmen for the Derby and says Scout leaders tell him it is the only opportunity their boys have to test their canoeing skills.

Novice and advance level teams will compete in a canoeing obstacle case Saturday morning and a timed course will be held Saturday afternoon. Paper boat races will be held at 3:30 p.m, and the adults will be included for the first time.

Registration will begin late this afternoon and a 40th anniversary patch will be awarded to all Scouts in attendance.
