Federal judge to speak at Bluffs law Seminar
Federal Court Judge John Gerrard will be in Scottsbluff Thursday to make a presentation over the noon hour to panhandle attorneys attending the annual Bob Chaloupka Trial Skills Seminar.
It is the second year for the continuing education event at the Hampton Inn named after the respected late Scottsbluff lawyer. Chaloupka's daughter Maren, who has established a successful practice of her own at her father's law firm, says Gerrard's public appearance is momentous. Chaloupka says it is the first time in her memory that a federal judge has made a public appearance in the panhandle.
Gerrard will speak at 12:30 on courtroom ethics. Speakers are coming from all over the country, including former Scottsbluff resident John Ballew and those attending will include attorneys from Omaha, Rapid City, Las Vegas, Wyoming and Colorado.
Chaloupka says Judge Gerrard's appearance also shows that the federal judiciary is conected to western Nebraska even though the closest federal courtroom is hundreds of miles away in North Platte.
