Alliance sirens not blown because storm was moving away from city
Sirens were not sounded in Alliance Tuesday when a number of funnel clouds were possible tornadoes were spotted in Box Butte and Sioux Counties.
The one tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service in Cheyenne for Box Butte County, and that was for the southwest portion of the county from a storm moving to the northeast.
Shoemaker says the tornado warning sirens were not activated in in the city Tuesday afternoon, because the impacted area away from the city.
On the issue of sirens, Shoemaker says the city has received a $72,000 grant from FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency to add sirens to the Lakefield and Homestead additions in north and south Alliance,offering more coverage for the city.
