Bank robbery suspect to face trial on drug charge

A Scottsbluff man awaiting trial for robbing a Valley Bank location in Scottsbluff just before Thanksgiving of last year faces trial on a drug charge Wednesday. A jury was selected (Tuesday) in the methamphetamine possession case against 42 year old Michael Scott. Police say Scott was in possession of a small quantity of the drug when he was taken into custody for the bank robbery.

Scotts Bluff County Attorney Doug Warner needed to separate the drug case and the robbery charge so Scott did not face trial to the same jury panel. Scott was sentenced in late May to 12 18 months in prison after he pleaded guilty to assaulting an inmate while at the Scotts Bluff County Jail. Scott also faced theft and fraud charges involving local bank ATM cards, but they were dismissed.
