Mitchell man arrested after early morning accident

A man has been arrested for drunk driving and other charges in an accident on the west end of Mitchell early Thursday morning.

Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Deputy Sergeant Troy Brown says 28 year old Stephen Lochman of Mitchell was traveling west on Highway 26 entering Mitchell when he lost control of his car. Brown says the vehicle hit a curb, losing both driver's side wheels, and then spun around into the Quick Stop parking lot. Brown says the vehicle narrowly missed a gas pump.

Lochman was arrested for second offense drunk driving, refusal to take a chemical test and filing a false report. Brown claimed the driver of the car had fled when talking to Police, but witnesses of the accident around 4:40 a.m. told authorities Lochman was the driver.
