Verizon customers scam alert
The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff's Office has issued a warning Thursday that their office has become aware of a telephone fraud targeting Verizon cellular customers.
A release from the Sheriff's Department says Verizon customers received a recorded call from an 800 number stating that they had been chosen to receive a $670 credit on their account. The recording said to go to a website, www.vzw670.com, and login with your Verizon credentials to activate your credit.
The release says they have confirmed similar frauds using different credit amounts but a similar web address. Although the site looks legitimate, this is a "phishing" fraud attempt, and is not a legitimate Verizon website. The site captures the customers' login information and password, and then immediately redirects to what appears to be a legitimate Verizon site.
Anyone that has logged into this or a similar site should contact Verizon immediately and let them know that your account information has been compromised.
