Huskers to play for share of title

The No. 16 Nebraska women's basketball team will play for at least a share of the Big Ten title while facing No. 19 Purdue on the Boilermakers' Senior Day in a top-20 showdown on Sunday.

Tip-off between the Huskers (22-5, 12-3 Big Ten) and Boilermakers (20-7, 10-5 Big Ten) is set for 1 p.m. (CT) at Mackey Arena with live national television coverage on ESPN2. Bob Picozzi and Ros Gold-Onwude will call the action on TV, while Matt Coatney and Jeff Griesch will be on the radio call for the Husker Sports Network on flagships B107.3 FM in Lincoln, 1110 AM KFAB in Omaha and 880 AM KRVN in Lexington. A free live audio stream will be available on Huskers.com.

The Huskers will be playing in a conference title game for the third straight season as a member of the Big Ten. In 2012, Nebraska dropped a 74-70 double-overtime thriller to Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament Championship Game at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Last season, the Big Red battled Penn State for a share of the regular-season conference title in NU's final home game in history at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on March 3. The Huskers lost that game 82-57.

Huskers Jordan Hooper, Emily Cady and Hailie Sample, who will be making their 95th consecutive starts together, were all starters on both of those Nebraska teams, while juniors Tear'a Laudermill and Brandi Jeffery have both played major roles each of the last two seasons. Those five Huskers are hungry for their first conference title, while also trying to snap Purdue's four-game winning streak in the series.

Nebraska's lone win against the Boilermakers came in the first meeting ever between the two schools, a 93-89 triple-overtime win on Feb. 2, 2012 at Mackey Arena. Since then, Purdue has won four games in four different buildings (Devaney Center, Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Sears Centre Arena, Pinnacle Bank Arena), including two more that went OT. The most recent game came down to a Whitney Bays game-winning putback with two seconds left in a 77-75 Purdue victory on Jan. 19 in Lincoln.
