Local firefighters called to rural fire

Three local fire departments extinguished a tree row and corn stalk fire northeast of the old Little Lake Alice school Monday morning.

Minatare Fire asked for assistance from Gering and Scottsbluff Rural Fire Departments around 5:30 this morning to extinguish hot spots and contain the fire in the corn stalks. Only three acres was burned and a small pile of debris. Scottsbluff Rural Assistant Fire Chief Paul Reisig says there was speculation it might have started from sparks due to someone cutting wood.

Three vehicles from each department were used and firefighters were at the scene for 90 minutes to two hours.
