Huskers hope to stay hot tonight
The Nebraska women's basketball team continues its two-game Big Ten road swing when the Huskers head to Iowa to battle the Hawkeyes on Monday night in Iowa City.
Tip-off between the Huskers (17-6, 7-3 Big Ten) and the Hawkeyes (16-8, 5-5 Big Ten) is set for 7:36 p.m. (central) from Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City.
Nebraska stretched its Big Ten winning streak to five games by claiming its fourth victory in five Big Ten road games this season with a 55-50 win at Northwestern on Thursday night. The Huskers built a 15-point lead midway through the second half, before holding on for the win.
Reigning Big Ten Player-of-the-Week Jordan Hooper led the Huskers against the Wildcats with 19 points and seven rebounds. During Nebraska's five-game winning streak, Hooper is averaging 23.2 points per game while shooting nearly 50 percent (40-81, .494) from the field and three-point range (16-34, .471).
The 6-2 junior forward from Alliance, Neb., also crossed the 1,500-point mark in her career in the same game as teammate Lindsey Moore. The 5-9 senior point guard from Covington, Wash., added 16 points and four steals against the Wildcats while setting the Nebraska record with her 121st straight start. In NU's three wins over Iowa last season, Moore averaged 21.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists and 4.0 steals. Hooper added 18.0 points and 9.6 boards against the Hawkeyes a year ago.
A win at Iowa would give Nebraska just its third six-game conference winning streak (1997, 2010), and just the second four-game road conference winning streak in Husker history (2010).
