Shields earns Big Ten Conference honor
Shavon Shields of Nebraska and Nik Stauskas of Michigan are the co- basketball players of the week in the Big Ten Conference.
Stauskas, a sophomore guard for the Wolverines, averaged 22.5 points per game on 14-of-24 shooting in leading Michigan to a pair of wins and an outright Big Ten Championship for the first time since the 1985-86 season.
Shields averaged 21.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in leading Nebraska to a pair of victories and a first-round bye in this week's Big Ten Tournament.
For the week, Shields shot 16-of-33 (.485) from the field.
In the road win at Indiana, scored 17 points on six field goals and pulled down eight rebounds, including three offensive boards.
Shields poured in 26 points in the win over nationally-ranked Wisconsin, helping Nebraska secure the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament.
Shields earns his second career Player of the Week honor and second this season.
The Freshman of the Week was Troy Williams of Indiana. He had an 18 point game against the Huskers and averaged 16 points per game for two contests.
