Gering Police alert citizens of phone scam
The Gering Police Department is alerting residents of a phone scam involving a caller that says he is representing a new cable company in the area.
Police say a local cable television provider informed them one of their customers received such a call. The customer said the caller indicated if he wanted to continue his current pricing, he was required to give his credit card or bank account number. Tthe customer did not give that information and took the appropriate action in calling his cable provider to inquire about the call.
Gering Police and other local law enforcement agencies urge citizens never to give credit card or bank account numbers to unknown persons over the phone or internet. If you ever have questions, do some research, and contact the companies involved directly. And always report suspicious calls to local law enforcement.
