Police concerned about pedestrian-vehicle accidents

Scottsbluff Police Captain Brian Wasson says people need to be more observant about their surroundings after a spate of pedestrian vehicle accidents in the last month, one that resulted in a fatality and another where the victim is still in serious condition at Regional West Medical Center.

Wasson says motorists have to be alert for all possibilities as the weather gets warmer and yield to pedestrians if they are in the intersection or crosswalk. Wasson says motorists need to watch for children, intoxicated individuals, people running out from between cars and those on bikes, roller blades and motorcycles.

Wasson says pedestrians need to cross the street at cross walks, not run out from behind cars, and not get wrapped up in music they may be listening to while walking. Wasson also says children need to be supervised at all times.
