Harms: Committee recommendations must include property tax relief
State Senator John Harms of Scottsbluff says a proposed study of the state's tax system must include recommendations to provide property tax relief.
Lawmakers voted 47-1 Wednesday to send LB 613, the bill that would create a tax modernization committee, to the second round of debate. The committee is charged in the legislation with conducting a comprehensive study of our state's tax code and include recommendations that will modernize the state's tax system.
Harms says while a lot of the conversation this legislative session has involved sales tax exemptions and income tax relief, property tax is what most people say they are concerned about.
The bill passed following a filibuster by Senator Ernie Chambers.
