County Road K improvements encouraging
Efforts have been made in the last two weeks and in the future to improve the second road leading to Western Nebraska Regional Airport. County Koad K has very difficult to travel in the dry conditions prior to April, producing dust and a safety hazard.
Scotts Bluff County Airport Authority Board member Dr. Lou Kleager says the wetter conditions allowed the county to make "marked improvements", including crowning of the road for better draining and work to eliminate the "washboarding".
The Airport Authority Wednesday was going to make a $2,000 donation to help place crushed rock on the road. But Airport Manager Darwin Skelton says the county has instead agreed to purchase $2,000 of asphalt millings from the Airport to mix with the clay to provide even more stabilization for the road.
It is important the road is in good shape because the FAA requires two quality roads leading to the airport
