Sentencing a step toward healing for Wheatland

WHEATLAND, Wyo. (AP) _ Many in Wheatland say the lengthy prison sentence imposed Tuesday on a man who shot and killed his family two years ago will allow the quiet, agricultural town to move toward healing.

Everett Conant III opened fire on his family at a Wheatland trailer park in July 2011, killing his three sons and his brother and wounding his wife.

District Judge John Brooks on Tuesday gave the 37-yer-old Conant five consecutive life terms, four of which offer no chance of parole.

Officers from the Wheatland Police Department and other agencies found the bodies in the trailer.

Wheatland Police Chief Randy Chesser said he believes that the town has done a good job of healing so far. Chesser says Conant's sentencing will move the town's
recovery forward.
