Gering looking at four candidates for Police Chief position
The City of Gering is one step closer to having a Police Chief after signing a contract with the International Association of Chiefs of Police, who will be helping with much of the testing process for four internal candidates who have applied for the position.
Human Resources Director Carrie Havranek says the IACP will conduct the first part of the assessment for them in two parts. There will be a written component and a structured interview. Following that, they will receive a written report from IACP, which will then go to a hiring committee that will be made up of council members and selected senior staff.
Havranek said they hope to get the process completed as soon as possible, but was hesitant to give any kind of timeline. She doesn't believe it will be by the end of the month, however. Havranek said she has requested from IACP a timeframe for their portion of the process, and is hoping to have a reply on that request by the end of this week.
The Chief of Police duties are currently being divided between the department's two Captains.
