Archibald does not qualify

PUEBLO, Colo. – Chadron State College junior Gavan Archibald did not qualify for the finals during the preliminaries of the 400-meter hurdles Thursday night at the NCAA Division II National Track and Field Meet in Pueblo, Colo.

Archibald finished 16th among the 21 entries in the preliminaries. His time was 53.54 seconds. The top nine advanced to the finals.

The fastest time in the preliminaries was run by Daniel Ross of Virginia State in 50.78 seconds, more than a half second ahead of Elhadji Mbow of St. Augustine's University in North Carolina. It took a time of 52.56 to qualify.

This was Archibald's first trip to the national meet. He qualified for nationals by running 52.56 at the Colorado Mines Last Chance Meet on May 12. He won the 400 hurdles at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in 52.87 seconds.

Three more Eagles will compete at the national meet Friday evening. Alyssa Norton and Sadie Waugh will throw the discus at 5 p.m. and Karl McFarlane will run the preliminaries of the 110-meter high hurdles at 6:55.

Norton and Cody Hunt will throw the shot for the Eagles on Saturday.
