Fatal accident accident investigation almost complete
Goshen County Attorney Pat Korell says he should have more information early next week on whether charges will be filed in a fatal rollover near the Wyoming/ Nebraska state line January 9th that killed two Scottsbluff teenagers. Korell says two important interviews still need to be done and he expects to receive a final report from the Wyoming Highway Patrol on the accident Monday or Tuesday.
The accident killed two Scottsbluff women, 18 year old Alexis Wheeler and 19 year old Hallie Anderson, both students on the WNCC Scottsbluff campus. Four additional passengers were hospitalized, but the only one remaining at Regional West Medical Center is 19 year old Tyler Hill of Lyman. Hill is listed in stable condition. 22 year old Ethan Kaufman of Cheyenne, the driver of the vehicle, was the latest to be released from the hospital.
The initial investigation by the Wyoming Highway Patrol indicated excessive speed and alcohol may have been contributing factors in the accident. Korell says a final report on a blood alcohol test from Kaufman should be available Monday. He is also waiting for an interpretation of results from a module on the late model pickup that would give him additional information on speed and other factors.
