Eichorst new Nebraska athletic director
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Harvey Perlman has announced that Shawn Eichorst will become NU's next athletic director.
He will join the University of Nebraska Oct. 9 as a special assistant to the chancellor, and will succeed Tom Osborne on Jan. 1
Eichorst resigned as Miami's athletic director, effective immediately, this morning.
Last month, Osborne announced he would retire from Nebraska on Jan. 1.
Eichorst arrived at Miami in April 2011 with the school's athletic department in flux after spending the previous six years at Wisconsin, including the last three as deputy athletic director under Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez.
Prior to Wisconsin, Eichorst was a senior associate athletic director at South Carolina.
Eichorst, 45, graduated from Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1990 and earned a law degree from Marquette in 1995.
Eichorst is expected to replace Osborne, the Cornhuskers' legendary football coach from 1973-97 who returned as Nebraska's athletic director in 2007.
Osborne will become athletic director emeritus and stay involved in department operations through July 30, 2013.
