Airport Board donates to Improve County Road K
The Scotts Bluff County Airport Authority Wednesday agreed to make a $2,000 donation to an effort to improve the second road leading to the airport.
Area residents near the northern end of County Road K want Scotts Bluff County to spend $25,000 to place crushed rock on the road to improve the gravel surface, which is very difficult to travel in the dry conditions, produces dust and is a safety hazard. Dr. Lou Kleager, a member of the Airport Board and one of the concerned residents, says the board's decision is a symbolic effort to show support for getting the road improved.
Legal counsel Jerry Ostdiek said that because the FAA requires two quality roads leading to the facility, the board had the authority to make the donation. Kleager says the residents are working with the county in an effort to share the remainder of the cost for the improved surface.
