Brother and sister own CSC pole vault records

CHADRON – In less than a week, brother and sister Kolten and Kaelie Jelden have set Chadron State College indoor pole vault records.

At last Saturday's Air Force Academy Open Meet, Kolten went 15-feet, 7-inches to set the CSC men's record. Then Friday during the Chadron State Twilight Meet, Kaelie cleared 11-7 ¾ to claim the CSC women's record.

The former women's record was 11-7 set by Megan Harrell in 2011. Kaelie also established the Chadron State outdoor record of 11-9 ¼ last season.

Kaelie's vault Friday provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Division II National Meet that will be in March. Her previous best indoors was two inches less than her mark on Friday.

Both the Jeldens are seniors and are from Eaton, Colo. Kolten also won the men's pole vault Friday.

The Eagles had several other highlights during the meet.

Junior Alyssa Norton of Rushville had career best marks while winning both the shot put at 46-6 and the 20-pound weight throw at 53-¾. Both are provisional qualifying marks for the national meet.

Another double winner for the Eagles was senior Trae Patch, who swept the 60- and 200-meter dashes.

Other CSC women who won events were Meagan Nahrwold, 400; Shelby Guy, 800; and Chelsea Murray, 60-meter high hurdles.

In the men's competition, eight Eagles won. They included three juniors who posted provisional qualifying marks.

The three are Alex Graham, who ran the 60 meters in 6.88 seconds; Dean Francis, who ran the 200 in 22.89; and Charith Kapukotuwa who hurled the 35-pound weight 57-2 ½.

The other CSC men who won events are Phil Rivera, 400; Domingo Torres, mile; Donnie Butler, long jump; and the 4x400 relay team. The relay runners were Xavier Kvistad, Frederick Culp, Gavan Archibald and Rivera.

A Black Hills State entry, Trisha Koch, joined Patch and Norton as a double winner. She won the long and high jumps and also anchored the winning 4x400 relay. Her teammate, Shelby Tollefson, won the triple jump.

Myrissa Clark of Gillette College won the 5000.

Two South Dakota Mines men won events. Taylor Buse captured the 800 and Everett Thomas took the 5000.

Black Hill State's Jacob Wilson won the high jump.

Three Chadron State veterans who are redshirting this winter competed unattached and won events. Karl McFarlane captured both the men's 60-meter hurdles and the triple jump, Cody Hunt won the men's shot put and Ashley Riesen won the women's mile mile,
