Zephyrs blank Cody 4-0

Behind some clutch two out hitting and the arm of Eric Moreno the WESTCO Zephyrs topped visiting Cody 4-0 Friday night at Cleveland Field.

The Zephyrs scored two runs in each of the first two innings in support of Moreno's two-hit, 11-strike out performance. All of the runs came with two outs.

In the first inning Ty Benson and Tharyn Curtis led off the game with singles then scored on a two-out double by Ty Wilson. In the second inning Jacob Schmid, who finished 3-3 at the plate, hit a two-out single. Benson then reached on an error and Curtis walked to set the table for Ty Dunkel who delivered a two-run single.

Moreno's shutout performance moved his record to 8-1 on the year. The Zephyrs are 25-11. Moreno also went over 100 strikeouts(107) for the season, and lowered his earned run average to 0.74.

The Zephyrs will have two more games in the Walmart sponsored tournament Saturday, playing Douglas at 10 a.m. and Chappell at 8:00 p.m. They have Roosevelt on the schedule Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
