Gering gets 6th win of the softball season

A ten run first and an eight run second carried the Gering Bulldogs past visiting Alliance, 18-4, Tuesday night at Oregon Trail Park. The game was called after two and one half innings.

Alliance jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Whitney Hall delivered a run scoring single. But the lead did not last long.

Gering sent 13 batters to the plate in the bottom of the inning, scoring 10 unearned runs on just two hits. Gering received six walks and had three batters hit by a pitch. They also benefited from two Alliance errors and seven wild pitches. Junior Brooke Doggett had one of the two hits, a two-run double.

Alliance was able to add a run in the second, but Gering came back with eight more in the bottom half of the inning. Junior Jessica Rogers had a two-run single in the inning.

Alexa Longoria pitched the first two innings to pick-up her third win of the year. Overall Gering is 5-3 on the season. Alliance dropped to 0-5. Both teams will be at a tournament in McCook this weekend.

Longoria was named the KNEB Taco John's Player of the Game.
