Husker bowling season to start
Lincoln, Neb. - The Nebraska bowling team will open up its 2012-13 season this weekend at the Crusader Classic in Valparaiso, Ind. The Huskers hope to start the season off strong in hopes of winning its ninth national championship.
Head Coach Bill Straub really likes the youthful talent the Huskers squad has this year during preseason training and is excited to see how they compete against a talent-rich 10-team field at the Crusader Classic.
The field includes five of the top-10 teams in the nation, including No. 2 Arkansas State, No. 4 Valparaiso, No. 5 Nebraska, No. 6 Central Missouri State and ninth-ranked Valparaiso.
"The field at this year's Valparaiso Invitation includes most of the best teams in the country." Straub said, "Considering the youthful makeup of our Husker squad, this event promises to be a fine test to start the season."
Senior Kristi Mickelson returns from a minor injury suffered in a preseason car crash, and will likely lead the Huskers throughout the season. Mickelson scored the second-highest season pinfall average (203.3 in 43 games) on the team last season.
Junior Yan Ling and sophomore Liz Kuhlkin will also compete for NU at the tournament, adding much needed experience to this young talented Husker squad. Newcomers Elise Bolton, Beth Hedley, and Andrea Ruiz will make their debuts for the Husker bowling team at the Crusader Classic this weekend.
