Chadron converting pool from outdoor to indoor

CHADRON, Neb. (AP) - Chadron is hoping to bring its outdoor pool in.

The western Nebraska city has applied for a $250,000 state grant to convert the city's outdoor swimming pool into an indoor facility.

The city received approval of its preliminary application last month, but the final application must be submitted by Friday.

Because a decision on the pool project won't be made until later, City Council members have opted to include a proposed expansion and renovation of the Chadron library in the application. It's hoped that if the proposed pool project falls through, the city could use the money instead for the library project.

But City Manager Wayne Anderson says state officials have warned that such a change isn't possible.
