Scottsbluff man sentenced to probation for selling drugs at family restaurant

A Scottsbluff man who entered a plea to the sale of methamphetamine from the front counter of a local restaurant was sentenced Wednesday to four years probation. District Judge Randy Lippstreu cited Ross' minimal criminal record in saying he was appropriate candidate for probation.

32-year-old Brian Ross, who was initially charged with three counts of distributing methamphetamine, entered a no contest plea to possession of methamphetamine in exchange for his cooperation as a confidential informant in other drug cases. Scotts Bluff County Attorney Doug Warner says Ross was a great help in prosecuting the other cases.

Court documents indicate Ross, while working for his family's restaurant, sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant working with Wing Drug Task Force investigators. The court document says the informant would go up to the counter, give Ross $100, ask for a Coca Cola and then be provided the soda and a bag containing a gram of methamphetamine.

The controlled buys occurred three times, March 22nd, March 23rd and April 5th of last year. Investigators placed a digital recording device on their informant each time and a video recording device during the transaction in April.
