County buildings expected to re-open Thursday
The Scotts Bluff County Administration building and the Courthouse will be open Thursday after an electrical problem in the Administration building's boiler room caused the two county buildings to close Wednesday. The County's Director of Operations Carol Prince says crews are working to restore power to the buildings section by section, and she is confident both buildings will be operational and open to the public Thursday.
Gering Fire Chief Jay Templar says a short in the "chiller" transformer caused damage that resulted in the decision to close both buildings. Templar says there was a lot of arcing and sparking and little in the way of fire. But Templar says the heat caused considerable melting of components and wiring.
Sheriff Mark Overman says one of the county's information technology personnel observed smoke when the short occurred in the transformer. Templar says the crews were trying to complete re-wiring for each section of the building until power could be restored completely.
The issues impacted electrical and computer operations in both buildings. The Communications Center is operating on reduced power and there were some power outages in areas of Gering related to the incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m.
There were no injuries.
