Bayard freshman finishes second

Scottsbluff has added points in the Class B boys competition at the State Track and Field Championships at Omaha Burke Stadium.

The Cats were sitting in first place after day one of the meet with 23 points. They now sit with 31 after a fourth place finish in the 800 from Taylor James and a 6th place finish from Ben Willis-Teff. The Cats currently lead second place Blair by 15 points.

Also in the Class B boys 800 Levi Avila of Mitchell was 14th and Hayden Lienemann of Sidney was 21st.

Bayard picked-up eight points this morning in the Class C girls 800 competition. Freshman standout Jessi Smith got a second place finish.

She is capping off a terrific first season in fashion at the state meet. She clocked in at 2:20.7 Saturday morning, just six hundreths of a second out of first.

The points put Bayard into double figures for the meet with 11 1/2.

The panhandle brought some points home in the girls Class B 800 too. Mitchell junior Taylor Peters got sixth. Gering's Rachel Huffman finished 19th and Kiley Guerue of Scottsbluff did not finish.

Megan Guest of Crawford was 16th in the Class D 800. On the boys side in Class D William Skavdahl was 12th and Luke Johnson of Potter-Dix finished 17th.

In the boys Class C 800 Caleb Reuter of Kimball was 22nd.
