Mitchell approves money for Communication Center upgrade
Mitchell is the latest community to provide financial support to help the county pay for $350,000 budgeted this year for the communication center upgrade. The Mitchell council approved $8,000 for the project Tuesday evening. Mayor Brian Taylor told KNEB News the council felt it was something they needed to do even if residents pay for the system through their county taxes.
The $8,000 is half of what the county requested, but Taylor says the fact the county's letter arrived in August when budget discussions were basically finished made it difficult to find available money. Taylor says Mitchell will likely contribute more when it considers the 2013-2014 budget.
Scottsbluff with $70,000 and Gering with $40,000 also contributed half of what was requested for the same reason as Mitchell. Henry approved $510 and Morrill provided $8,270 based on the county's population formula. Banner County sent a check for $1,200 and Lyman and Minatare are expected to also provide help.
