Gering to mark completion of U Street project
The city of Gering will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. today to mark completion of the project to remove overhead lines on U Street and place them underground. Colorado Powerline Company had been working on the project since last summer.
City Engineer Paul Snarr says the project was done to replace unstable aging poles that provided a safety hazard and to provide a more attractive looking street.
The project cost was about $1.35 million after it was extended to include taking out a pole and wires at the 21st Street intersection. The Western Area power Administration kicked in $350,000 and several utilities also provided money that reduced the city's portion of the project to about $900,000.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the Gering High parking lot at 15th and U Street.
