Bearcat boys earn top seed
The undefeated Scottsbluff boys basketball team earned the top seed Monday for the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference Holiday basketball tournament.
The 7-0 Bearcats will play winless Columbus(0-7)in the opening round of the tourney Thursday, December 27 at 7:15 CST at Columbus High School. Just prior to that contest the Scottsbluff girls will play their first round game against top-seeded Norfolk. The game is scheduled for 5:30 CST at the high school. The Panthers enter the game at 4-2. The Bearcats are 0-5.
In the boys bracket McCook(5-1) is second seeded. The Bison will play seventh seeded Lexington(2-3) in the first round. Third seeded North Platte(4-2) will tangle with sixth seeded Hastings(3-2). Scottsbluff will play either fourth seeded Kearney(4-3) or fifth seeded Norfolk(1-5) in the second round.
Last season the Cats' first loss of the season came to Norfolk in the championship game of the GNAC tournament in Lexington. The Cats also got their first GNAC basketball title ever against Norfolk four years ago in Norfolk.
On the girls side of the bracket McCook(6-1) is the second seed behind Norfolk. They will play seventh seeded Hastings(0-5) in the first round. Other match-ups include third seeded Kearney(4-3) against sixth seeded Lexington(1-4), and fourth seeded North Platte(2-4) against fifth seeded Columbus(2-5).
The tournament will run three days with games being played at both Columbus High School and Central Community College.
