Police warn citizens about "Warrant" scam
Scottsbluff Police are warning citizens of another ongoing phone scam. It was reported to the Scottsbluff Police Department that a call had been received advising of an outstanding warrant against the victim. The victim is told to put money on a Green Dot card to pay off the fine. The suspect then asks for the Green Dot card number in order to obtain the funds.
The citizen reported that they had obtained a call back number (308-201-XXXX). When the victim called this number back, the call went into voicemail advising that it was the Scottsbluff Police Department and to leave a call back number. The suspect called the victim back, and pressured them to obtain the funds on the card. When the victim refused the suspect threatened with immediate arrest.
Scottsbluff Police Sgt. Lance Kite says to please be aware this is a scam. And if you receive one of these calls, notify your local law enforcement agency right away. Or call Scotts Bluff County Crimestoppers at 632-STOP.
