Iona Mae Cross, 87, Scottsbluff

Iona Mae Cross, 87 of Scottsbluff, NE passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Golden Living Center in Scottsbluff. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Golden Living Center with Pastor Don Mathis officiating. Inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Cody, Wyoming at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Cancer Society.

Iona was born on June 5, 1925 in Kimball, Ne to Ruel and Hazel (Green) Schindler. She received her education at Flower Field School in Banner County. She married John "Bud" Cross on June 24, 1942 and made their home in Banner County and LaGrange, Wyoming. They owned and operated the Hilltop Café from 1959 to 1964. They moved to Powell, Wyoming, where they farmed. They also operated a car wash in Powell.

Iona was a curator at the Homestead Museum in Powell. She volunteered at the Cody Museum, Meals on Wheels and was a poll worker during election time.

She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing, canning, making holiday decorations for her home, family and also for Golden Living Center.

Survivors include her daughters Kathy Stricker of Cheyenne, WY, Linda Dike of Gering and Carolyn Jones of Rawlins, WY; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband "Bud" Cross, one brother and two sisters.
