Construction begins on new Bluffs Runza

A new and bigger Runza restaurant is planned for downtown Scottsbluff. Restaurant owners Neil and Lora Blomenkamp say construction on the new 8,000 square foot restaurant has begun at the old Taekwando building just south of the existing location. The current restaurant at 19th and Broadway will be removed.

Lora Blomenkamp says after nearly thirty years it was time for an upgrade and to do something different. She emphasizes seating will double from 50 to just short of 100 in a more informal and spacious setting

Neal Blomenkamp says the new drive-thru will run off of First Avenue, eliminating the crowded conditions on 19th Street, and there will be more parking up front. The restrooms will be larger and plans call for the extra seating to include roundtables, booths and maybe a lounge chair.

Neal Blomenkamp says they also plan to use 3,000 square feet upstairs to build two upscale apartments, and there are plans for two more apartments upstairs of their neighbor Scottsbluff Screenprinting.

The Blomenkamps say they hope to have the new restaurant open by the end of July.
