Smith pushes for approval of Keystone XL project
Third District Congressman Adrian Smith says he is confident with today's technology the transfer of oil from Canada's tar sands to southern ports in the United States can be done safely.
Smith told KNEB News Friday with the State Department's final environmental impact statement offering no roadblock to the Keystone XL pipeline, it is time for President Obama to get behind the project. Smith said, "Now is not the time to block this and block that based on an anti fossil fuel agenda in Washington."
Asked about whether there should be concern some or most of the oil will go other destinations other that the United States, Smith said oil like corn is a commodity and the government should not try to control it. But he added it is better for the country to have the oil transported from a neighbor like Canada to southern refineries than having it come from the troubled Middle East.
