Stieb enters plea regarding Gering residential burglary

The second of three teenagers charged with a residential Gering break-in in January has entered a no contest plea to burglary. 19 year old Byron Stieb's plea came prior to a scheduled bench trial Monday morning before Scotts Bluff County District Judge Leo Dobrovolny.

Police say the three burglars broke through a basement window to get into a home at 1180 17th Street and once inside ransacked the property. Holes were reportedly drilled in the drywall, beds were overturned and figurines and lamps were broken or damaged. Police also say a variety of property was taken, but nearly all of it was recovered after the arrests.

Stieb, from Gering, will be sentenced May 13th at 1:30 p.m. 18 year old Shane Merrills, who also entered a no contest plea to burglary, will be sentenced May 13th at 2:30 p.m. Also charged with burglary in the case is 18 year old Robbie Strauss, who is facing trial during the June 3rd jury term.
