Late drive lifts McCook past Scottsbluff
A late drive by McCook lifted the Bison past host Scottsbluff 13-8 in high school football Friday night. The winning score came with just :49 to go in the game.
Not only was it late in the game when the winning score came, it was also late in the evening after a two and one half hour lightening delay stalled the start of the contest.
Scottsbluff scored first in the game on a 31-yard field goal by Jackson Hinze with 1:28 to go in the opening quarter.
McCook was able to game a 7-3 edge at halftime as they scored with 1:24 to go in the first half when Colton sis hit Bret Baumbach with a 22-yard touchdown pass.
The only points in the third quarter came on a safety with 1:03 to go in the third quarter when Brad Johnston and Andrew Aratani sacked Sis in the end zone.
The Cats were able to grab the lead at 8-7 with 6:50 to go in the game when Hinze connected on a 37-yard field goal. However McCook was able to mount a 70-yard drive to score the winning touchdown on a one-yard sneak by Sis.
Both teams are now 1-1 on the year. Scottsbluff will try to rebound at Holdrege next Friday night.
