Gering man injured in truck-semi accident near Bridgeport
A Gering man suffered serious injuries in a pickup-semi accident just north of the Bridgeport junction on Highway 385 Wednesday afternoon.
The Morrill County Sheriff's Office said that 32-year-old Javier Vasquez-Perez of Gering was northbound in a 1993 Ford F-250 pickup on Highway 385 and was slowing to make a right-hand turn. He instead turned left in front of and was struck a northbound semi-truck loaded with sugar beets. The semi, owned by Aulick Leasing, was driven by 61-year-old Daniel Smith of Torrington.
The accident occured just before 1:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon, and closed the highway for about an hour and a half.
Perez suffered significant injuries and was flown from the scene by AirLink to Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff. He was later flown to a Denver-area hospital, where Sheriff's Office officials say he is in stable condition.
Seatbelts were not in use, and the investigation continues.
