Gering moving forward on plans for new downtown library

The city of Gering is finalizing a memorandum of understanding with Omaha redeveloper Scott, Woodbury and Wiegert on a new library. Gering Mayor Ed Mayo says the city is planning on placing an 18,000 square foot library in the downtown area, and indicated it will include an extra space, two to four thousand square feet, for multiple uses including retail and education.

Mayo admits it would "be pretty tight" to place the building desired on the Auction House property on 11th Street purchased recently by the city as a possible site for the library. Mayo says there are one or two other properties also being considered as a possible site, but would not disclose where they are.
