Airport makes 10,000 boarding figure
Officially we can say the countdown is over. Western Nebraska Regional Airport Manager Darwin Skelton says he can say with confidence the airport has made the 10,000 boardings they need in the calendar year to receive a million dollars in federal funding.
Skelton says the boardings that were added by the Eagle Med Medical Transport service this fall helped a lot in gaining the 10,000 figure, as did the number of people who flew casino flights to Wendover, Nevada. He says Great Lakes Aviation will also board over 800 people in December, more than he initially projected.
If the airport had not reached the 10,000 boarding figure, they would have received only $150,000 in federal funding in their next budget year. Skelton believes with Eagle Med's presence for an entire year, this will be the last year the airport has to worry about reaching the 10,000 passenger number at the end of the year.
