Gering B&C Steel is headed to the Class B Junior State Tournament in Elkhorn following a 3-2 win over Chadron in the championship game of the Area 7 Tournament in Sidney Tuesday night.

A run in the bottom of the sixth broke a 2-2 and propelled Patrick O'Boyle's team to the title.

"It was a great game," he said. "The kids answered the challenge. We used some good base running to win the game."

Austin Hoffman stole home for the winning run. He reached on a fielders choice, advanced to second on a single by Trace Fulk, then went to third on an error before the theft of home.

B&C also scored a fourth inning run on a steal of home. Esai Hernandez led off the inning with a single. He was sacrificed to second by Austin Reynolds. A Hoffman single put runners on the corners then Gering attempted a double steal. Hoffman was thrown out, but Hernandez was safe on the front end of the play. That put Gering up 2-1.

B&C scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second innings. Reynolds, who went 2-2 in the game, led off with a single. He was erased by Hoffman, who hit into a fielders choice. Hoffman proceeded to steal second and move to third on a wild pitch. He later scored on a passed ball on a ball four pitch to Nic Bibb.

Conner Pickett was the winning pitcher, hurling a complete game four hitter. He struck out six and walked two. One of those walks, along with two hit batsmen came in the top of the seventh inning, but the Chadron rally ended with a bases loaded line drive to Hoffman.
