Gering council approves sponsoring application for pathway expansion

The Gering city council Monday evening approved a resolution to be a cosponsor in an application for federal funds to expand the Monument Valley Pathway system. Scotts Bluff National Monument superintendent Ken Mabery says the expansion would move the pathway from Cemetery road up to the Monument and then to the Legacy of the Plains Museum, finally connecting with the existing pathway on U Street.

The application asks for up to $500,000 in federal funds for the expansion with a 20% local match. Mabery says Sctts Bluff County and the Legacy of the Plains Museum may also be co-sponsors.
