Scottsbluff teams place high in District FFA Contests

Members of the Scottsbluff High School Future Farmers of America chapter ranked high in the parliamentary procedure competition Wednesday at the District 12 Contests hosted by Chadron State College.

Scottsbluff won the top purple ribbon in the junior competition and was second in the senior contest. As purple ribbon winners, both teams are eligible to compete in the events at the State Convention in Lincoln in April.

Members of the junior team were Jacelyn Bruner, Jaime Carlson, Mikayla Fulk, Bailey Imel, Sam McQuistan, Kaldron Meininger, Jarrett Ratliff and Levi Shope.

The senior team was made up of Alexis Aragon, Tevyn Baldwin, Tylii Muncie, Katey Myers, Chrissy Peters and Taylor Russell.

Kimball won top honors in Senior Parliamentary Procedure at the district contest for the 11th year in a row. Kimball also was second in Junior Parliamentary Procedure.

Muncie also earned the right to compete at state by winning the second place purple in Cooperative Speaking.

Among those earning the top purple ribbons were Michael Ferguson of Kimball in Junior Public Speaking, JaLee Pilkington of Bayard in Senior Public Speaking, Janelle Kesterson of Bridgeport in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Kayellyn Hall of Bayard in Job Interview.

The Gordon-Rushville High School Ag Demonstration team won top honors, followed by Alliance.

More than 250 students from the 12 FFA chapters in western Nebraska participated in the contests. The State FFA president, Alix Mashino of Spencer, and one of the state vice presidents, Andrew Ambriz of West Point, helped with the contests and awarded the prizes.
