Transportation Amendments Key to Agriculture

Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the Senate Agriculture Committee, has proposed an amendment to the transportation bill to extend renewable energy tax credits, including a one year retroactive extension of the biodiesel tax credit. And Senator Pat Roberts, Ranking Member of the Senate Agriculture committee, has proposed an amendment that includes extension of the biodiesel tax credit along with other energy related provisions. The U.S. Senate is expected to vote on these amendments to the transportation bill Tuesday.

The American Soybean Association is urging all members to contact their U.S. Senate offices to urge support for the Stabenow and Roberts amendments. ASA also is seeking support for the Klobuchar amendment to maintain the hours-of-service exemption for agriculture, and the Merkley-Toomey-Blunt amendment that exempts, under certain circumstances, farm trucks from a set of safety regulations intended for interstate long-haul truckers.
