Drought Worsens in Key States
Nearly one-fifth of the land in the lower 48 states continues to be in extreme or exceptional drought - according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. Drought conditions have worsened in the nation's biggest corn producing states - Kansas and Iowa - and 98-percent of Nebraska continues to be in one of the two worst categories. Now 54-percent of the corn crop has been harvested - but half of the crop in the U.S. is classified as poor to very poor - compared to 20-percent last year. Forty-one percent of the soybean crop has been harvested - but one-third is considered poor to very poor.
