House Ag Leaders Committed to Seeing Farm Bill Through House Floor Soon

Following his committee's passage of the Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management Act - Ag Chair Frank Lucas wasn't ready to discuss details of a path forward for the measure. But Lucas did stress that he and Ranking Member Collin Peterson are committed to getting the bill enacted as soon as possible. According to Peterson - there's no reason the House leadership shouldn't bring the measure before the full House ahead of the August recess - which begins August 3rd.

Peterson continues to stress the need to complete the farm bill before September 30th. He even told reporters he wouldn't be opposed to merging the legislation passed by the House Agriculture Committee with the Senate-passed bill before taking it to the House floor. However - he doesn't believe that would be embraced by House Democrats or Republicans. Peterson says Democrats aren't likely to embrace the more than 16-billion dollars in cuts to food stamps in the bill either. Still - he believes the measure will pass the House.
