Irrigation outlook Uncertain
The irrigation outlook for 2013 is dependent on the weather this winter, according to Bureau of Reclamation Wyoming Area Office Manager Coleman Smith Jr. Speaking in Torrington, Wyo. Tuesday, Smith said the record 2011 inflows into the North Platte River reservoirs supported water users through this year's drought, but the current storage is not enough for another dry year.
As long the mountains in Wyoming receive a average snowpack, then the outlook will be consistent with historical levels. Smith says the Bureau will be able to meet the water demands very comfortably with a little carryover for the following year. But if snowpack is below normal, then the Bureau of Reclamation will be prepared to issue allocations in managing the water very closely.
