Gering Flood Control Project Completed
After nearly 50 years the Gering Valley flood control project is complete. The final stage of construction of the Yensen Drain and the Dam H Diversion project was completed this fall. The flood control project is located southwest of the city Gering, on the backside of Scotts Bluff National Monument. North Platte Natural Resource District Manager Ron Cacek says the project help control water in the Gering Valley area.
The $12 million dollar project was predominately funded federally through the Natural Resources Conservation Service. The overall effort will help the City of Gering as well surrounding agricultural land.
Operation and maintenance will be carried out by a committee made up of the North Platte Natural Resources District, Scotts Bluff County, the Gering Ft. Laramie Irrigation District, the Gering Irrigation District, and the Central Irrigation District.
