Lawrence Robert Buckley, MD., 92

Lawrence Robert Buckley, MD, beloved husband, father and grandfather, died Friday, September 28, 2012 following a brief illness in Scottsbluff. He was 92 years of age.

A private family service was held.

He was born and raised in Beatrice. Lawrence or Larry to his friends graduated from Beatrice High School, and later from DePauw University in Indiana. He served the U.S. Navy during WWII, piloting PBYs in the Pacific, thus beginning his most cherished hobby carried throughout his life – flying. Returning from the war, Larry graduated from Medical School in Omaha in the class of 1950, and subsequently from an Internship in St. Paul, Minnesota and General Surgery Residency in St. Petersburg, Florida before settling to practice in Clearwater, Florida. He qualified for and joined the American College of Surgeons and practiced General Surgery until his retirement in 1980, serving both as Chief of Surgery and then Chief of Staff during his tenure. While in medical school, Larry met and married Jane Emery, eventually having a son and a daughter. In addition to a lifetime of flying, he most enjoyed traveling and reading. Shortly following his retirement, he moved to Scottsbluff.

Larry is survived by his wife, Jane, son John Buckley of Lincoln, and daughter and son-in-law Joan and Robert Saunders of Andover, MA. His grandchildren include: Elizabeth Buckley San Martin and husband Luis of Phoenix, AZ, Christopher Buckley of Omaha, NE, Nicholas Saunders of Brighton, MA, Amanda Saunders of Cambridge, MA and Peter Saunders of Andover, MA.
